Oxford is well served by road and rail networks that give fast and direct access locally, nationally and from Europe.

Travel has a direct impact on the environment. To help minimise carbon production we encourage visitors to think carefully about how they travel. For example: to minimise road usage, please consider car share where possible or book a coach for groups.

By Train:

First Great Western operate a frequent direct train service between Oxford and London Paddington (approximately every 30 minutes) along with services from the South via Reading; from west via Didcot or Reading and from the North via Bicester and Banbury. By Bus:

Fast and frequent coach services provide a direct link between the centre of Oxford and Central London 24 hours a day. Services range from every ten minutes at peak times to every hour during the night. The Oxford Espress serves Victoria Coach Station, Grosvenor Gardens, Marble Arch, Baker Street/Gloucester Place and Hillingdon. The Oxford Tube service includes Grosvenor Gardens, Marble Arch, Notting Hill Gate, Shepherds Bush and Hillingdon. For details call National Express. By Road:

Oxford is connected to London, the M25 and the Midlands by the M40 motorway. Junctions 8 and 9 link directly to the city. The Oxford ring road provides direct access to the south and west coast ports of Southampton, Portsmouth and Bristol via the A34. By Air:

London Oxford Airport (OXF) is located just 8 km north of the city centre, near Kidlington and Woodstock. Weekly passenger services operate to and from Jersey in summer and regular year-round scheduled flights are planned to commence in 2010 to cities including Edinburgh, Dublin and Geneva. The airport is one of London’s key private jet gateways. Ad-hoc charter and conference flights from short and medium-haul destinations can be arranged to/from London Oxford Airport on aircraft up to 100-seat capacity (contact Destination Oxford to book). A bus service connects Oxford Centre and rail services to the airport, taxis are widely available and private transfers can be arranged.

London Heathrow and Gatwick airports: all terminals are linked to Oxford by “The Airline” coach service which operates a direct frequent service 24 hours a day. Birmingham airport is within one and a half hour transfer by car and offers European, International and local routes. Train connections to Oxford from Birmingham airport are excellent with regular fast services available.  London Stansted airport is linked to Oxford by the National Express 757 coach.
